A rare stucco marble fireplace surround in Louis XV style,
assembled from different parts dating from the second half of the 19th century, with a red marbled and relief-decorated finish, c. 120 x 170 x 46 cm, in restored condition, with colour variations.
Stucco marble was employed even in Late Antiquity, and served primarily as imitation marble, although the complex technique used to produce it often made it more expensive than real marble.
